Kirkby-in-Ashfield sits about five miles south west of us, just off junction 27 of the M1, and the whole of the NG17 side of the town is well inside our patch.
Like Mansfield and Sutton, Kirkby is a former mining town and the housing stock reads that way. Terraced rows from the colliery years around the older parts of the town, big inter-war and post-war estates, and then a lot of newer building out towards the M1 and around Kirkby Woodhouse and Nuncargate. Each brings its own heating job. The older terraces commonly have an undersized gas run that was never upgraded when the back boiler came out, which is the single most common reason a new boiler locks out on a cold morning: the appliance is drawing more gas than the pipe can deliver. We check the supply and size it properly rather than fitting the boiler and hoping.
The newer estates are usually clean combi work, but a fair number were built with the smallest compliant boiler and no system filter at all. Adding a magnetic filter and giving the system a proper clean is often the cheapest thing you can do to make a ten year old boiler behave, and it is a fraction of the cost of replacing it.
We cover Kirkby town, Kirkby Woodhouse, Nuncargate, Annesley, Annesley Woodhouse and the streets around Kingsway. Eight to five, Monday to Friday.
